I’ve been a busy lady, y’all. A busy, decorating lady. Other than trying to get each room livable, I’ve been working on the design of the living room and pulling out all the Christmas decorations. I want to share with you all the updates in the living room.

So first thing, I stenciled an accent wall. I found a great selection of stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils. It was hard to nail it down, but I managed to pick the perfect one. 

I used a quart of gold metallic paint from Target for my stencil color.

I followed the instructions on the stencil packaging and also used spray adhesive like I did when I stenciled the last kitchen’s backsplash. If I could give one tip that will save you so much time and trouble when stenciling, it is to use spray adhesive. It really does prevent bleeds and keeps your stencil in place.

It took me three days to finish the wall, which is a long time for me, but I wanted to take it slow and make sure I did a good job. The hardest part was around the door and along the wall and floor because the stencil didn’t lay flat, but I just took it nice and slow and used very little paint so I didn’t make a big mess. Overall, I am really satisfied with how it turned out.

There is one thing that I don’t like, but it has nothing to do with the stencil. I’ll get into that a little later in the post and that’s when I’ll need your help.

Ok, next the front door. Brace yourselves.

Yup, it’s pink. And I love it. And of course, the girls love it! And surprisingly, my husband likes it to. The rest of the room is monochromatic blue and white so the pink on the door really pops and adds some life to the room.

Finally, I made a few new purchases for the room. I scoured the internet for the perfect rug to tie in all the colors of the room together and my favorites were all on Rugsusa.com. I chose one with varying colors of dark blue and some gold tones and pink. I got a runner for behind the loveseat and a 4’x6′ to layer on top of the bleached jute. I was so happy when they arrived because the color was exactly what I saw online. Sometimes, the picture online doesn’t jive with what shows up at your house. Luckily this was not the case with my pretty rugs. If you want to check out these rugs and many other pretty selections you can find them here.

Ok, so now I’ve shown you the progress I’ll tell you where I need help. I plan on keeping the walls white for the most part, just a painted accent here and there. The problem is the white paint that the painters used prior to our move in is, in my opinion, not white at all. It looks yellow to me and I hate it. I thought it wouldn’t seem so yellow after I lived in it for a while and put all my furnishing in, but it’s just more noticeable to me now. Now, I can go ahead and paint the other rooms a brighter white if I want, but now that I’ve stenciled the accent wall I think bright white paint will look awkward. So, here’s what I’m thinking. Should I just go ahead and paint the other walls white and just paint the baseboard white on the accent wall or should I try adding bright white stripes to the color that is already there? Like a tone on tone thing. I figure it will look kind of like this tile design from Sarah Richardson.

So, what do you think? should I paint the whole thing white and hope the accent wall doesn’t clash too much, leave the paint as it is or try the tone on tone white stripes? I’m ready to move onto another room, but don’t want to bite off more than I can chew so hopefully you all can help me make up my mind.
